The misconceptions of pagan symbols
Most of the symbols used in Wicca remain obscure to the profane, vulgar, or disinterest. However, some who have become well known, but due to misunderstandings and misinterpretations bad company, have fallen into disrepute. Intolerance religious dogmatism by some non-pagan groups compounds the problem.
The pentagram, the Moon and the Mano cornuta (horned hand) is probably best known for the general public and will be discussed in this article. All these symbols are error associated Wicca with Satanism, despite that Wicca and Satanism are two religions totally different. Pentagram and Pentacle
The pentagram is a five-pointed star surrounded by a circle. As a symbol, is old and has been widely used for millennia by various cultures (As far as the Maya) and of different religions (including Christianity). In Wicca, the pentagram is a sacred symbol and the representative of the appearance of the Earth during the ritual. It contains all the elements that give life. Circle the five-pointed star representing the sacred space where the Spirit (God, the Divine) governs on the four elements earth mundane (work, home and home, etc), air (intellect, thought, etc), fire (action, energy, etc) and water (emotions, love, etc..) The staff is considered a symbol of protection in most traditions, like the cross is seen as a symbol of protection for Christians.
The law, as used in Wicca Pentagram, is often confused with the back and Pentagram Pentagram Baphomet. The latter is an inverted pentagram with a goat head. Anton LaVey, who was the founder of the Church of Satan (mid-20th century) Baphomet Pentagram was used as the main symbol of his church. The Christian church has condemned the pentagram as a symbol of evil soon there after. No distinction was made between the Wiccan pentagram Baphomet and Pentagram.
Moon
The moon is a sacred symbol of the goddess and the representative of the cycle of rebirth, maturity, old age and death, followed by rebirth. The crescent moon represents a woman young (young daughter) and symbolizes a new beginning and growth. When the Moon moves to the full, the woman enters the "mother" phase of his life. When the moon decreases and the woman entered its "old witch" years. For Wiccans, this step is associated with wisdom and knowledge. In Wicca all stages of women's lives are valued and respected.
Witches celebrate the phases of the moon as a representation of life and make use of the different stages to give authority to specific spells. In the example, the crescent moon can be used to enhance a spell to reconstruct a person, after an illness, while the full moon could be used to give power to a spell that try to maintain good health and the last quarter Moon to build a spell that seek to destroy the disease.
Misconceptions about the symbol Wicca Moon of the fact that Satanists describe the symbolism of the moon as death and blood. This is illustrated in the following extract from Vexen Crabtree, known Satanist and published:
